Why is Kendall Jenner so sad after the social media outrage?

By slipping into the shoes of a ballerina for a day, world famous model Kendall Jenner has also slipped into a cesspool of controversy and outrage. After her latest photo shoot with Vogue España, dancers from all over the world have expressed their fury at being represented by Jenner, who has never had formal training in ballet.

In the above photograph, Jenner leans against a barre, attired in a flowing beige dress and gloves of the same colour. The professional dancers were quick to point out that Kendall's pointe shoes do not have silky ribbons that provide the essential support, and the centre knot is not neatly tucked into the shoe: things that would not be overlooked by students who are in the first week of their beginners' pointe class. As an expression of outrage, principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre, Misty Copeland, posted a phtograph on Instagram, captioned : " How to correctly wear pointe shoes".

Jenner also features in a video where she sashays around a ballet studio dressed in various ballerina outfits. "I had to grow up pretty fast, I love being a kid — to run around like a child just not caring," Jenner says in the video. Dance Spirit magazine lashed out in anger in reaction to the video, as they wrote: "Because they decided to dress Jenner up in tutus and legwarmers and have her 'do ballet,' though she’s clearly not ballet trained... The video is, apparently, a sort of little-girl fantasy on ballerina-ness. Which, OK. But to our eyes, the whole thing reads as pretty disrespectful to the artists who devote their lives to this demanding craft."
Fans trained in ballet were also quick to react to the shoot via Twitter, writing things like "Ballet dancers don't train 7+ hours a day, 7days a week, to be represented by Kendall Jenner & her dodgy feet." and "Kendall Jenner pretending she knows anything about ballet is truly the most offensive thing of 2016."

Although the dancers were mostly upset about the technical inaccuracies of the video, they all agreed that it was extremely dangerous -- trying to twirl en pointe with no training is almost guaranteed to result in a severe injury.

However, many people soon came to Kendall's aid, as the majority of social media fumed over the controversy. Many stated that they were interested by the narrative of a person who's been famous more or less her entire adolescence and adult life talk about how she wishes to recreate her childhood. New York Magazine's The Cut has also pointed out that models often pose doing things that they are not experts in.

Professional ballerina Allison DeBona also defended the model in a Facebook post.
Referring to her own video that received criticism for being overly sexualized, Allison stated: "TO THE BALLET WORLD, it seems to me as if there is never a perfect condition for you. As far as Kendall Jenner and the Vogue España shoot, she's a beautiful young girl who's job is to do what she's asked to do".
